THE LAST VOYAGER OF THE DEMETER
Concept Project
Roles: Creative and Art Direction, Illustrator, Designer
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The goal of this project was to develop a poster for The Last Voyage of the Demeter that respected the aesthetic of the official posters, while at the same time adding a more conceptual reading deeply connected to the film’s narrative. The intention was to capture the dark and tragic spirit of the story through an image that, without straying from the established visual language, offered a more symbolic interpretation of the central conflict, showing how the threat of the creature looms over the ship and its crew.
THE CONCEPT
After jotting down ideas and analyzing the existing promotional material, there was a concept already suggested in one of its posters that I wanted to revisit and enhance: the idea of how the creature, despite its smaller size relative to the ship, ends up completely taking control of it. To represent this domination and power, I expanded the creature’s scale until it became a figure with immense presence, under whose shadow the ship is trapped as if it were a puppet. To reinforce the drama of the scene, I placed a full moon behind the creature and used a rough sea with choppy waves. These elements bring aggression and tension, while at the same time evoking a romantic and sublime aesthetic, where nature and the monstrous prevail over human fragility.
