FRANKENSTEIN

Concept Project

Roles: Creative and Art Direction, Illustrator, Designer

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The goal of the project was to create a horizontal teaser key art for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, specifically designed for OOH formats such as billboards and large-scale displays. The piece needed to function as a first hint of the film’s visual universe, generating intrigue without giving too much away, and condensing the dark and powerful atmosphere of the story into a single image. The main challenge consisted of developing a strong and expressive concept using only the first released trailer, building an image that captured the visceral and deeply human tone of Del Toro’s vision. It required identifying visual elements that were iconic and meaningful enough to create a teaser that was both powerful and clear, synthesizing in a single visual gesture the spirit of the story: creation, life, blood, and the tension between the monstrous and the intimate.

THE CONCEPT

Watching the trailer, what caught my attention was the color of Victor’s gloves. I liked the choice of red over any other color. He is the creator of life, the one who infuses power and energy into a being that is born, literally, from his hands. He cuts, joins pieces, and covers himself in blood, plunging into death itself to reach life. I aimed for a teaser key art that was simple but striking, able to convey the strength of those hands and spark mystery and curiosity, without the need to show blood, focusing instead on his creative power.
