SOCIETY OF THE SNOW
Concept Project
Roles: Creative and Art Direction, Illustrator, Designer
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The goal of this project was to create a teaser key art for Society of the Snow that avoided resorting to the morbid depiction of survival-driven cannibalism and instead distilled the deeper message that shapes the film: the strength of unity and the human ability to support one another in extreme situations. The challenge was to condense this emotional and collective dimension into a symbolic, restrained image capable of conveying the essence of the story without exploiting its more sensationalist aspect.
THE CONCEPT
With this image is meant to represent the unity, resilience, friendship, and struggle of a group of young men who, beyond being a football team, are friends bound by victories, defeats, and shared experiences that strengthen the bond that becomes so essential in a situation like the one depicted in this story: surviving in the middle of the snow, where it is only them and an endless white expanse around them. One of the hands holds another that barely has any strength left, on the verge of giving up. It grips it firmly, conveying support, companionship, and the strength needed to keep fighting. The vertical composition aims to reinforce these two emotional states: the fall of one of them and the emergence of the other from a higher point.
